Evelyn A. Yates
YATES, Evelyn A. (Lokovic), a homemaker, died peacefully August 20, 2012 after a brief illness. She was 89. Born at home April 17, 1923 in the South Auburn section of Cranston, she was the youngest child of Emil and Emma (Pellach) Lokovic. She was also a lifelong communicant of St. Matthew Church on Elmwood Avenue, where she served as Eucharistic Minister. Evelyn was a member of The Daughters of Isabella and gladly served the Cranston Senior Center's Garden Club as Vice-President of Programming and Secretary; she even earned "The Golden Trowel for Excellence of Service". She was well known for her green thumb and passed this love of gardening on to her family. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Edwin L. Yates, Sr. (founder and owner of Auburn Electric Company), her son, Edwin L. Yates, Jr. (also of Auburn Electric), daughter Mary Zolli (retired Cranston kindergarten teacher), and daughter Cynthia D'Attilio, all of Cranston and daughters Linda Geoghegan and Suzanne Gruczka of Englewood, Fla. She was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who called her Gigi ("g-g"); the youngest of her great-grandchildren, who lives in Texas, is three and a half weeks old and was named for her, an honor of which Evelyn was very proud. She was also very proud of her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; they called her "Auntie Evie" and stayed in close contact from all parts of the country. As per Evelyn's request viewing is to take place prior to her Mass and will occur on Friday beginning at 8:45am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am in St. Matthew Church Elmwood Avenue Cranston. Evelyn will be interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence RI 02904.
