Raymond G. Lawton Jr.
Raymond G. Lawton, Jr, 83, of Cranston passed away on Sunday November 18, 2012 at Greenwood Care & Rehab Center after a short illness. Ray was born in Cranston on October 22, 1929. He was the son of the late Raymond G. Lawton Sr and Edna M. (Kerr) Lawton with whom he lived. He was a lifelong resident of Cranston. Ray was the brother of Gloria Lawton Anderson and the late Janice Lawton Holland. He never married or had children of his own however he was fortunate to be the uncle of JoAnne Schiavulli, Buz Anderson, Bethany Rossano, Cheryl Defeo, Roberta Plantz, Ronald, Earl, Melody, & Jamie Holland. Ray worked with his father at Edward Lawton & Sons, a family run spool manufacturing company in Cranston until it closed in 1968. He then worked at Dunkin Donuts and Rainbow Bakery. It was at Rainbow Bakery where he met his very good friend Teresa. She was from Poland and they shared many stories. They were friends for years and he was saddened when she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. Ray took an early retirement so he could spend time with his father & mother. Even though Ray was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed watching old classic movies his greatest joy was listening to big band music, his favorite being the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He knew all the songs and loved going to the dances at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet where they played all of his favorites. Ray was an avid mall walker. It wouldn't be a good day unless he could go to Warwick Mall. He enjoyed meeting people and made many good friends there. Most of all he liked seeing all the "pretty girls"! His funeral will be held on Saturday November 24, 2012 at 10:00 AM in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Burial will be at Pawtuxet Memorial Cemetery in Warwick.
Calling hours will be held an hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to your favorite charity.
