I want to express my sincere sympathy to your family on your loss. Dr. Mennillo was my pediatrician and I remember him like it was yesterday. Though as a baby, toddler and child, I didn't like going to the office, he had such a gentle and caring way about him that I got through it. He was an outstanding doctor to his patients and their families.

Patricia Picano - 01/23/2013

Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your loved one. I had the honor of having Dr. Mennillo as my pediatrician. I remember going to his office like it was yesterday. He had such a kind and gentle disposition that he made you look forward to going to the doctor. He truly cared about his patients and would call you back no matter what the hour and would not hesitate to make a house-call to make sure your child was okay. He was truly the best of the best. Thank you Dr. Mennillo for taking such good care of so many of us for so many years.

Jeri D'Antico - 01/23/2013

My deepest condolences to the entire Mennillo family. Dr. Ernie was my son's peditrican. He was an outstanding doctor as well as a gentle human being. He always seemed to make everything feel ok when my son was sick. I remember when I took him to Dr Ernie for stomach pains, he saw that I was nervous and gently tried to ease my fears. My son needed an emergency appendectomy that day and Dr Ernie was by our side the entire time. He felt more like family than like a doctor. He was admired and loved by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. He will truly be missed.

Larry R. Rittmann - 01/23/2013

My condolences are extended to all the Mennillo family. We, at East Greenwich Golf Course, always enjoyed having Dr. Ernie and his son Roger or friend Bob "tee it up" with us. At golf he described himself as a "duffer". As a human being he was a terrific "pro". We shall miss him dearly.

Pam and Jim Picard - 01/23/2013

Marilyn LaCasse - 01/23/2013

My deepest condolences to the Mennillo Family. "Dr. Ernie" was the best. Such a wonderful man! Always so nice to my girls. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

sharon terzian & becca - 01/23/2013

Dr. Ernie was one in a million, and I feel so lucky that my kids had him for their doc. My Bec was born on a Good Friday (3rd child) and he brought me an Easter basket. Becca adores(d) him, and I think she challenged every thing he knew about medicine, but we got through it together and he was always willing to listen and learn and plod through the world of genetics and special needs and make sure she got everything she needed. As he used to say, there's nothing wrong with her, she's just not of this planet. We all loved his bantering with Dr. D'ellasandro and the stories he told of their residency, and after he retired, but continued to go into the office, stopping in while he had his lunch just to say hi. He was one in a million. So incredibly blessed to have known him, thank you so much for sharing him with us.

Bob and Marie Mariani - 01/23/2013

To the entire Mennillo family, our deepest sympathies for the loss of such a wonderful man. I just turned 51, but when my mother, Marie told me about Dr. Mennillo's passing, I wanted to tell you all how much he ment to us thru my youth. I saw him a lot in my younger days, and will always remember looking up at the "cat clock" ! He made being sick often, as good as it could be. Sad to see him go, but very thankful he was part of our life.

Dear Dana, We want to extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family. We hope you find comfort in knowing what a truly wonderful man he was. Over the years, in the halls of the hospital, I would hear "and here is Cindy's sister!" he always wore a smile and had something good to say.

Debra Keough - 01/24/2013

Good Bless You Dr. Ernie,
I met you the day my first son was born and you always remembered Kyle wearing a Red Sox uniform that day. Through the years you were always kind, gentle, patient, and so understanding. I relied on you for knowledge and support and you never failed me. You would be proud of the 3 young men you took such good care of many years ago.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Jana Bradish - 01/24/2013

I first met Dr Mennillo at a young nurse in the Er at KCMH in 1972 . Tall young and good looking he was a pacient man wilth genleness on a kitter. I always looked forward to his shift. I realized the patients would receive the best care. Ihad two babies and Dr Mennillo was theirdoctor. We moved to Rochester, NY I told him and he said no problem here is were to go for the worlds best care. "Iwent to med school there". Best new and information we ever could get. Both my husband and I worked at Strong Memorial Hospital. Many years later Dr. Mennillo called said he was bring his son to see THe Med School. He wanted to see us so I invited him for lunch. My girls were so happy to see him. To think this man would visit old pts and share lunch in our home was great. This was a man of character and caring. I am so happy to see that Roger is following in his footsteps. To his family you have lost your husband and father and grandfather and greatgrandfather. May his Spirit live with in you. Peace to all of you and RIP Dr Mennillo.

Jane Mackenzie Dennison - 01/24/2013

A man who inspired me as a young resident with his patience, his sparkly eyes and his smile that showed his big heart. He showed his love for his work/life and inspired one of his sons to continue--what finer tribute to the world. Rhode Island has lost single man, but he left a legacy of healthy kids and caring families scattered all over. My generation of pediatricians will miss him but try to live up to his standard of care--big shoes to fill.

Venance Antonelli, RN (RIH 63) - 01/24/2013

Before I ever married or had children, I knew the pediatrician I wanted! As a student nurse we observed many doctors and when I saw how caring and gentle and thorough Dr. Mennillo was when he examined newborns, I knew I had found a gem.I also heard him lecture to interns and residents at the old Potter Building and was also impressed by his knowledge and willingness to mentor.
He made house visits if necessary and was very reassuring to new mothers. When I was concerned over possible slow development in one of my children he said, "remember that not every apple on the tree ripens at the same time.." and he was right, my daughter was fine. This same child contracted meningitis in the 70's and it was by his thoroughness and expert care that she survived and now has three children of her own. There are more stories but not enough space .
I want to not only express my sympathy to the Mennillo family but also to thank them profusely for sharing Dr. Ernie with so many of us. We are so very grateful. He will be missed by many.I am glad that his legacy of caring for children will live on with Dr. Roger.May Ernie's loving and caring spirit live on in all who had the privilege to know him.Our loss is heaven's gain. Rest in peace Dr.Ernie, a good and faithful servant.

Arlene and Lou Palmieri - 01/24/2013

It was with great sorrow, that we discovered our friend Doc Menillo had passed away. We knew Doc through trapshooting. Arlene shot trap with him many times with his friend and ours, Neil Swanson. Doc was a warm, compassionate man who always had a ready smile and kind word for everyone. He was a fine human being who will be greatly missed.

We regret that we are unable to show our respects tonight.
Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Mennillo and members of her family. Arlene and Lou Palmieri

Rayne and Michelle Macomb - 01/25/2013

Prayers and thoughts going out to Dr. Mennillo's family. My sister and I grew up at the end of the street from 'Dr. Middow's'(as we called him) office and we were in seeing him frequently with our childhood illnesses. He was always kind, warm and someone who we didn't mind seeing if we didn't feel well. A pediatrician is a special person in a child's life. Someone who is present during the good times and a strength and resource during the bad times. As a medical professional now, his gentle ways and immense wealth of knowledge are an inspiration to me daily. 'Dr. Middow' will be missed

Allison Cornell - 12/07/2013

I just found out about "Dr. Ernie's" passing today. He was my doctor for the first 18 years of my life, and I'll never forget him as long as I live. A gentle giant, he gave the best hugs, he was a true professional with a laid back personality that you just couldn't help falling in love with. He had an infectious laugh, and his eyes truly sparkled when he smiled. What a good man indeed. Certainly thought of often, missed by many, and never forgotten.
