Donald E. McGowan

Donald E. McGowan 90, of Cranston died Saturday October 26, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of Barbara (Vickery) McGowan for 64 years. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter Diane Popiak and her husband John of Charlton, Massachusetts a son David McGowan of Apache Junction, Arizona two grandsons Eric and Adam Dieffenbach, three great-grandchildren, and a sister Evelyn Dwyer. Donald was a World War II Navy Veteran, an active member of the Church of the Transfiguration, and was a lifetime member of Rhode Island Board of Approved Interscholastic Swimming Officials. He was inducted into the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame in 2006. He was the owner of a retail store in Providence until his retirement in 1988. His funeral services and burial will be private. Donations in Don's memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island 245 Waterman Street Suite 306 Providence, RI 02906.
