Elizabeth W. Peterson
Peterson, Elizabeth W. (Shaw) 97, of Cranston, died January 15, 2014 at The Kent Regency Center. She was the daughter of the late Clinton W. Shaw and the late Laura (Webster) Shaw, who died when Betty was only four years old. She is survived by her son Robert Peterson and his wife Jeannine, of Greenville, and her daughter Elizabeth Santilli and her husband Carl of Cranston, and her six grandchildren Adam Peterson and his partner Bea Pace of Babson Park, Florida, Josh Peterson and his wife Karen of Seekonk, Massachusetts, Jacob Peterson and his partner Betty McBroom of Cranston, Jennifer Skinner and her husband Adam of Aurora, Colorado, Lia Santilli and her fiancé Michael Wahl and Katey Santilli, both of Cranston. She is also survived by her dear brother Clinton Shaw of Newman, Georgia. She was the sister of the late Laura Fehlner and Jean Allardice and sister-in-law of the late Eleanor Saunders and Bertha Peterson. Betty graduated from The Edgewood Secretarial School and began her career working in The Bursar's Office of Brown University in the late 1930's. She returned to the workforce at age 52 after many years volunteering for The Red Cross and various PTA, school and church groups while her children were young working as Church Secretary at Greenwood Presbyterian Church, at the New Farm Supper Club as the Coat Check Lady, and as Secretary to the Chief and later in the Fire Prevention Office of the Cranston Fire Department. Some of her fondest memories were of her "boys" in the department and following the fire calls. Upon retirement from the City at age 70 she kept on working with the ladies at Tacoa Jewelry while also being a primary caregiver to her younger granddaughters. She was always ready with Mrs. Grass soup, tuna fish and a storybook. Her son, Bob and daughter Beth deeply appreciate the nursing staff at The Kent Regency Center; Maria, the Carols, Sue, Pam, James, and many many others for their dedicated care to Betty over these many years as well as Administrator Stella, who remembers so many names and all the Lisa's. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Burial will follow in Springvale Cemetery Rumford. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 9:00am. Donations to The Kent Regency Resident Activity Fund 660 Commonwealth Avenue Warwick, RI 02886 are appreciated.

Dear Elizabeth and Family,
We were saddened to hear about our Betty's passing. We were very lucky to meet her at my mother's table in the dinning room at Kent Regency. Betty was a wonderful person, kind in her words and stories.
