Barbara Rosenfield Bartel - 01/28/15 - 01/29/2015

My sincere condolences to Eileen and their entire family. My family grew up on Potter Street, a block from the Butterfields, and I have many childhood memories of playing together. Part of the time when Ray was in the Navy, he was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station, and he spent many weekends with our family, then living in Glenview, IL. Ray was the friend who took charge and helped us through the dark hours when each of my parents died. Even though we were living in IL and my folks had been living in CT, Ray helped us with all the complicated details so we could bury them at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingston. His warmth, his great laugh, and especially his compassionate friendship will be missed by our whole family.

Tom Tatro, Harrisville, RI - 02/02/2015

So very sorry to learn of your dear Raymond's untimely passing; may he rest in peace. During his time running your most respectable family business, I was somewhat involved in making arrangements for services and we were well served by him. He was very kind, compassionate, and accommodating in even the smallest of details; his personal attention and patience were most appreciated.
Also, MANY years ago, I had the pleasure and honor to spend some quality time discussing the origins of the family business with Ray and Alice, his mother. She impressed me as a most gracious lady and capable professional - and a real class act - and Ray certainly followed suit. Ray, too, was a class act and a true gentleman. You all have quite a legacy to treasure and of which to be proud!
May God bless and sustain you at this difficult juncture and may you be comforted by fond memories and loved ones. Peace.

I have walked a mile in your shoes. Doesn't make it any easier. I appreciate the comfort that you gave to my family in our time of need. My Mom was heartbroken with the death of my Dad. Lori Borino Prete - 02/27/2015

Dear Eileen and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Ray. My deepest condolences to all of you.

- 02/27/2015

Looking at Ray's obituary photo aboard his boat on Narragansett Bay, I am reminded of many happy hours we shared on the bay. As children, Ray and I would be taken by my great aunt Elizabeth Whittaker Caranci on the ferry to Block Island, The boat left the Providence waterfront, cruising down river to Newport, picked up new passengers, then into the Atlantic to Block Island's New Harbor. While a beautiful senic cruise, Ray and I usually got bored. Being 5 years older and with my Aunt's permission, I would lead Ray throughout every corner and deck of the ship. It was great fun. Every time we saw each other Ray and I recalled and laughed about those Block Island trips fun. My memories of Ray last.

H. Tracy Mitchell - 04/07/2015

Eileen, I'm so sorry to hear of Ray's early passing. Ray & I attended and graduated from the New England Institute many many years ago. We were a part of a special group of 5 who often studied and partied together back in the "Good Old Days". Although we lost contact after graduation, I have kept a special photo of "we five" on my desk since. I will be sending you a copy. Again, my condolences.

Carr Family - 05/21/2015
