Jan Peter Holscher
Holscher, Jan Peter 89, died on October 3, 2015 at Hallworth House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Drees) and Herman R. Holscher Sr. He is survived by his brother Herman R. Holscher Jr. of Johnston several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John F. Holscher Sr., Anne (Holscher) Fraser, and Christine (Holscher) Testa. He lived for a number of years at Laurelmead, moving to Epoch on the East Side and then to Hallworth House. “Pete” grew up and attended Johnston schools. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Classical High School in Providence. Following service in the Army as an infantryman during the Second World War he entered Lafayette College in Easton PA. Pete graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1950. The college also awarded him the Lafayette Award for excellence. The University of Connecticut provided his training into his teaching profession. Following teaching ten years in the Enfield Connecticut school system he moved on and and earned his Master’s of Library Science degree at Pratt Institute in 1968. The rest of his professional career was spent in the employ of the Providence Public Library. Pete was an active and faithful member of several Presbyterian churches. His later years found him worshiping at the Providence Presbyterian Church. Pete was an exceptionally kind and giving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to all of the caring staff at Hallworth House and Gentiva Hospice who befriended him and gave him compassionate care. To all the staff... we thank you. Burial at Swan Point Cemetery will be private. Friends and relatives are invited to a Celebration of Life Service which will be held on Saturday October 24th at 2:30pm in the Providence Presbyterian Church 500 Hope Street Providence.
