Ruth M. Cole
Ruth M. Cole 90, of Warwick, died peacefully at Sunny View Nursing Home on Sunday January 8th after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Archie W. Cole. Born in Providence, Ruth was the daughter of the late John R. and Nora (Minehan) Ray. Ruth was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Sanders, Jean Golding, and Barbara Esposito. She lived much of her life in Providence and Cranston. She is survived by three sons, John W. Cole of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Kevin M. Cole his wife, Holly; and Robert D. Cole and his wife, Dianne, all of Cranston. Ruth is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and Betty Gonsalves, a life-long friend. A graduate Central High School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Ruth returned to nursing school at age 40, and her home was often filled on weekends with students while Archie dutifully removed his three sons to allow for study time. She worked for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital and for Dr. Bertram Holdredge in his office on Broad St. Ruth was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Church in Cranston. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Sunny View Nursing Home as well as Dr. Greenberg and staff at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by burial in St. Ann Cemetery Cranston. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 9:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island.
