Velna I. Marti

Velna I. Marti (Mountney) 88, of Laurens Street, Cranston Rhode Island died peacefully at The Philip Hullitar Hospice Center on February 23, 2012. She had many part-time jobs throughout her life which included working as a hostess at The Butterfield Home and Chapel, however it was raising her children and keeping her home that brought her the most joy. She was the daughter of Charles and Katherine Mountney, wife of the late Walter A. Marti Sr, and sister of the late Charles Mountney. She is survived by her three children Walter A. Marti Jr, and his wife Anne Marie, Dennis Marti, and Donna Marti and James Reilly. She was the beloved grandmother of four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Velna was a devoted member of Calvary Covenant Church in Cranston. She volunteered regularly at church visiting those who could not venture out. Velna was an avid animal lover and a member of the Providence Animal Rescue League.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Providence Animal Rescue League, 34 Elbow Street Providence, RI 02903.
