John G. "Jack" Crankshaw
Crankshaw, John Gordon “Jack” 79, of Cranston passed away peacefully in Tampa Florida with his family at his side on January 25, 2013. He was the devoted and loving husband for 53 years to Lois Belle (Hayman) Crankshaw. Born in Fall River, the son of Chester and Selina Crankshaw, Jack lived in Cranston all his life. As a graduate of URI, member of Phi Mu Delta and an active alumnus, he was employed as a Senior Underwriter at AMICA for 39 years. Besides his wife, he is also survived by his children Lynne H. Correllus of Attleboro MA., Nancy H. Taylor of Glocester RI and was the cherished grandfather of John and Amanda Correllus, Ashley and Laura Taylor. He was the dear brother of Pauline Phillips of Martha’s Vineyard MA., and uncle to several nieces and nephews. As an active member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church in Warwick, Jack sang in the choir and worked on many committees. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired at the rank of Major. Jack was an avid New England sports fan, and URI basketball season ticket holder. Upon retiring he and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially wintering in Florida in their RV. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00am in the Greenwood Community Church, Presbyterian 805 Main Avenue Warwick. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts in his memory may be made to Greenwood Community Church, Presbyterian or to the Providence VA Medical Center 830 Chalkstone Avenue Providence, RI 02908.
