James N. Galt

Captain James Neill Galt age 84, passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Wednesday November 26, 2014 at his home in Cranston, Rhode Island surrounded by his loving family. He moved to Rhode Island from Quincy, Massachusetts with his wife Caroline and daughter Pamela in 1967. He worked at the Providence Gravure in Providence for many years. Born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts on July 18, 1930 to James and Mary (Neill) Galt. He is survived by his beloved family including his wife Caroline (Robicheau), daughters Pamela and Jennifer, grandchildren Christina and Jonathon, his sister Janet of Fort Myers Florida and his cousin Margaret Messer of East Calder Scotland. Captain Galt was the Company Commander of Company A of the 1st Brigade 101st Infantry 26th “Yankee” Division. James joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard as an enlisted man in June of 1948 at the age of 17. He graduated from the Massachusetts Military Academy in 1954 and completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course at Ft. Benning Georgia in 1959. Captain Galt was a lifelong member of the Yankee Division Veterans Association. Burial will be private. There will be a Memorial Service for his family and friends at 11:00am on December 6, 2014 in the Westminster Unitarian Church located on 119 Kenyon Ave in East Greenwich.
