Ludy W. Romano

Ludy William Romano, 67 of Johnston, Rhode Island and Land O’ Lakes, Florida passed away peacefully at The Miriam Hospital in Providence surrounded by his loving wife and daughters on Tuesday June 9, 2015 after a ten month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born in Providence, on June 23, 1947 he was the son of the late Emilio “William” and late Angelina (Imbriaco) Romano. He lived in Rhode Island most of his life before retiring in Florida. He was the beloved husband of Wanda Ann (Cimino) Romano. He is survived by his children Lori and son-in-law Joseph Leonardi of Plainville, Massachusetts and Lisa Amaral of Johnston, Rhode Island, his brother Allen and sister-in-law Lorraine Romano of Providence, Rhode Island, sister Kathy and brother-in-law Tom O’Rourke of Largo, Florida, brother- in-law Frank and sister-in-law Adrienne DiMeo, brother-in-law Frankie and sister-in-law Marie Cimino, five grandchildren Savannah Amaral, Isabella Leonardi, Joseph Leonardi, Alexis Amaral and Tyler Leonardi along with three nieces, two nephews, and ten great nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Johnson and Wales University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He worked 32 years for Nyman Manufacturing and 5 years at Technical Materials Inc. (TMI) as Director of Human Resources. Ludy served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and 22 years in the 443th Civil Engineers of the U.S. Army Reserves stationed in Warwick, Rhode Island with an active duty tour to Bosnia for Operation Joint Endeavor in 1996 before being honorably discharged in 1997. Ludy loved to golf especially in the winters in Florida. Some of his other interests were traveling, especially cruising, taking 15 to various worldwide destinations. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch football. Ludy was a Lionel model railroading enthusiast. Every year he set up his trains and villages for his grandchildren. He has been a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since he was a young boy where he developed his love for Jesus Christ and deep faith. He was very active in his church where he served as a Deacon and a member of various Committees. Visitation will be on TODAY Wednesday June 10, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. The funeral will be held on Thursday June 11, 2015 at 10:30 am in the Emmanuel Baptist Church 529 Charles Street Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Rhode Island Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery 301 South County Trail Exeter. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to The Miriam Hospital Floor 4B 164 Summit Avenue Providence, RI 02906.

I had the distinct pleasure of working for Ludy in the H.R. Department at TMI for 3 wonderful years. I clearly remember leaving my interview and thinking I had never met anyone like him. I was beyond thrilled when he called and offered me the position. I have yet to meet anyone with his passion for life and family. The world will be a little darker without him. My heart in grieving at the loss of such a pure soul. Although we have only known Mr. Ludy for about 2 years, he become a valuable friend and Christian counterpart to us.
