Thomas M. Kernan

Thomas M, Kernan age 59, died after a lengthy illness at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence on Sunday October 11 2015 surrounded by family.  Tom was a long term resident of Warwick, Rhode Island and had previously lived in Cranston, Rhode Island.  
He was a long term employee of Jones Moving and Storage, Providence as well as Consumers Moving in Cranston, Rhode Island. Tom was born in Hartford, Connecticut on November 13,1955.  Tom was predeceased by his mother the late Rosemary (O’Connor) DeTuccio.  He is the son of John W. Kernan of Port St. Lucie, Florida.  He is also survived by four brothers:  John W. Kernan, Jr. and his wife Beth of Atlanta, Georgia; Gregory J. Kernan and his wife May of Harmony, Rhode Island; Kevin P. Kernan and his wife Marilynn of Warwick, Rhode Island; Jeff Kernan of Rochester, NY, as well as two sisters: Sharon M. Kernan of Cranston Rhode Island and Mariann Minett and her husband Gary of West Warwick, Rhode Island. Tom had several nieces and nephews who he enjoyed spending time with, including Alexandra and Bethany Cagen of Oakland, California; Daniel Cagen of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Paul Peck of  Wyoming Rhode Island;Kerri Bratcher of North Smithfield, Rhode Island; Jennifer Kernan of Nashville, Tennessee; Heather Kernan of Sandy Springs, Georgia;Tiana McNeil of Dunwoody, Georgia. 

Tom was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and being surrounded by friends.  He looked forward to family gatherings and loved to cook for a crowd as well as for himself. He was especially renowned for making the gravy at Thanksgiving dinner.  Tom was a loving son, brother and friend. He was a gentle spirit who was loved by all who came to know him.  He will be sorely missed.   His funeral will be held on Wednesday October 21, 2015 at 7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue in Cranston. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service beginning at 5:00pm. 
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Lung Association are greatly appreciated.
