Helen A. Wales

Wales, Helen A. 86, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday October 24, 2015 with her entire family by her side. Born January 27, 1929 on Coe Street in Woonsocket she was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen Gilbert. Helen worked at Moses Brown School from 1972 to1987 in the development office and was a very active member of the Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church. Through her knitting, she funded many projects for the church and contributed items for world missions. Helen often supported the Heifer Project. She also was a member of the Women’s Union. By taking part in the church’s musicals and entertainment productions, she helped to supply much of the music. In addition, helping at Vacation Bible School and the annual May Breakfast were among her great joys. She was at ease when greeting new members. Family birthday celebrations were especially some of her social highlights. She loved her family and is survived by her husband of 63 years Retired Cranston Fire Chief Charles Wales, daughters Nancy E. Larson and her husband Harold, Joanne K. Wales, Jennifer H. Ferri and her husband John, grandchildren Eric R. Larson, Alexandra E. and Michaela J. Ferri all of Cranston. Helen was also the sister of the late Stuart J. Gilbert. Jim and I are deeply sadden by Helen's passing. Helen warmly welcomed us to Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church over 3 years ago. Helen shared the gift her loving Christian spirit, her beautiful music, her knitted prayer shawls and we are so thankful that we had a chance to hug and kiss her and to hear her play the organ only as she could at Oak Lawn on recent visit to Rhode Island. Rest in peace dear friend. Our deepest condolences to Chuck, and all of her family.
