Richard G. Kearns Sr.

Richard G. Kearns Sr. 87, of Scituate, Rhode Island passed away unexpectedly at Rhode Island Hospital on Tuesday March 22, 2016. He was born in Providence and was the son of the late Daniel Kearns Sr. and Cora (Eddy) Kearns. Richard was the beloved husband of Gladys (Fugere) Kearns for sixty years. Besides his wife, he leaves five children, Richard Kearns Jr., wife (Jill) of Portsmouth; Thomas Kearns, wife (Cheryl) of Portsmouth; Lynn Kearns of Cranston; Diane Banville, husband (Bruce) of Johnston and Judy Kearns (Guglietta) husband (William) of Cranston. He also leaves six grandchildren Gage, Jocelyn, Teagan, Ryan, Matthew and Dylan. Richard was also the brother to the late Daniel, Raymond and Robert Kearns. Richard was a retired Letter Carrier from the U. S. Postal Service and a Veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. Besides enjoying time with his family and friends, he loved working at home in his vegetable gardens, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and tinkering with small outdoor equipment in addition to playing cards with the various card clubs he belonged to. His funeral will be held on Friday March 25th at 11:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will follow in The Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery Exeter. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Camp Surefire Foundation, 290 Hope Street Bristol, RI 02809.
