Joseph C. Tufano Jr.

Joseph C. Tufano, Jr, 74 of Johnston died at Roger Williams Hospital on March 7th after a year long illness. He was employed for 38 years as a senior foreman of the Johnston Highway Department, retiring in 2003.

Joseph was the loving husband of Valerie (Pisano) Tufano. They celebrated each other in marriage for 48 years. He was born in Providence in 1943 and resided there until moving to Johnston in 1952. His deceased parents were Joseph Tufano, Sr. and Theresa (Giannattasio) Tufano.

Besides his wife, Joe leaves his beloved daughters, Felicia (Tufano) Whiting of Providence and Joeli (Tufano) Kuncio of Smithfield. He leaves his cherished grandchildren, Grace, Nicholas, and Evan Whiting of Providence. Joseph also leaves a nephew, 2 beautiful nieces, a great niece, 3 precious sisters in law and 3 brothers in law who were all his family. He follows in death his life long friend, Charles Asselin.

Joseph was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, motorcycling, ATVing, snowmobiling, skiing, gardening, landscaping, scuba diving, and summer beach activities. He was also a marksman-target shooter, an award winning photographer, and a stone mason. He was a long term member of the Rhode Island Fish and Game Protective Association and The National Rifle Association. He served in the 4th Armored Division of the U.S. Military and was a communicant of North Providence Assembly for 23 years.

Calling hours will STILL be Monday from 4:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.

HOWEVER...... THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE WILL BE MOVED BACK 1 DAY AND NOW WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 14TH AT 10:00am in the North Providence Assembly 244 Lexington Avenue North Providence.

Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery Johnston. In lieu of flowers, kindly send your tax deductible gift to "Build the Banner of Love Inc." P.O. Box 8243 Cranston, RI 02920 (this non-profit organization supports all persons affected by overdose and addiction.)

I used to work summers with the Johnston Highway department when I was in High school. Joey always made you laugh, he was a great guy. He worked with my Dad for years. To the Tufano family I am very sorry for your loss.

Every time that I think of you Joe, I see a picture in my mind of you always by his side. One could look at the photos, your posts and prayer requests and see the perfect picture of two people deeply in love with each other. I am so so sorry for your loss.
