Lee E. Furney
Lee Ellen Furney peacefully entered eternal life on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Rhode Island Hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born July 29, 1954 in Providence, she was the second oldest daughter of Robert and Eileen (McCardle) Furney. Survivors include both of her parents, older sister Lynn Furney and partner Barbara Mendelsohn of Glocester, RI, her younger sister Laurie Aucoin and husband Steve of Greenville, RI and her younger brother Robert “Pete” Furney and wife Laurie of Warwick, RI. She is also survived by her loving nephew, Darryl Aucoin and wife Hilary of Randolph, NJ and her loving niece Krissy Larsen and her husband Chris of North Kingstown, RI. She attended St. Matthew School in Cranston, was a 1972 graduate of Cranston High School East and obtained a BA in Food and Nutrition from University of Rhode Island in 1977. Lee attended The Rhode Island School of Music where she learned to play the drums. She had a great love for music and rhythm, and organized a band she called, “So Rare”, frequently entertaining guests on Bay Queen Cruises out of Warren. Lee worked at the RI Training School, located in the City of Cranston, where she was a Juvenile Corrections Officer. Lee lived in Warren, RI with her best friend of 38 years, Kathy Weller, but for the past two years, had extensively assisted her aged parents, watching over them, keeping them company, and keeping them safe. Lee enjoyed spending time with family, frequently dining at her favorite restaurant, loved Dunkin Donuts Coffee, and catching up with old friends at URI reunions. She would often provide the entertainment at family functions by telling her repertoire of jokes, often laughing so hard herself that everyone had stomach pains from hearty laughter. Lee had an infectious smile and always saw the good in everyone she met. She cared for people even more than herself, she had a deep and caring passion for anyone needing help, and there was no end to her generosity. She touched the lives of many, and all our lives were better for having known and loved her. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lee’s memory may be made to: Paws Watch P.O. Box 7005 Warwick, RI 02887 or Alzheimer’s Association Rhode Island Chapter 245 Waterman St. Suite 306 Providence, RI 02906
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00am in St. Matthews Church (corner of Park and Elmwood Avenues) Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery Cranston. Visitation will be held on Wednesday in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston from 5:00-8:00pm.

Lee, I will always remember the fun we used to have when we hung out back in the 70's and beyond. Thank you for your wonderful sense of humor and your loving heart. I didn't see you too much these later years, but you were never far from my memory. Be at peace, my friend. Love you always.
