Helen H. Burgess

Helen H. Burgess 95, died peacefully on May 5, 2018 at the Brentwood Nursing Home in Warwick, Rhode Island. Prior to moving to the nursing home she was a long time resident of Cranston. Helen was married to the late Warren N. Burgess for forty-four years. She is survived by her four sons, Robert W. Burgess (Mary L. Burgess) Narragansett, RI, Richard J. Burgess, Hope Valley, RI, Ronald G. Burgess (Jody Burgess) Warwick, RI, and Ralph E. Burgess (Debra Burgess) Cranston, RI, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Helen was the daughter of the late George T. and Ellen H. Johnson. She graduated from Central High School before marrying Warren. They lived in Cranston for most all of their lives. She and Warren were charter members of the Association for Retarded Children and spent many years volunteering for that organization. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Cranston and served for several years as treasurer of the senior group at the church. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and worked for the Cranston School Department at Cranston West High School as the pastry cook. She especially enjoyed this work and developed many friendships while there. She also spent some of her time in sales selling World Book Encyclopedias and working for Sears in the Mall. Helen spent many of her summers traveling to or staying at Matunuck Beach. She also enjoyed boating on the bay, travelling, playing cards, games, going to the movies, and reading. But most of all she enjoyed being with her family. She will be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am in the Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Vetarans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation will be held on Friday morning prior to the Mass beginning at 8:30am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.

To the Boys of Burgess: My sincerest sympathy at this time of your loss. Your mom was a wonderful person through all her trials and tribulations. As I read your mother's obituary many fond memories came to mind
