Bette Ann Yazidjian

Bette Ann Yazidjian 75, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 11th, surrounded by her loving children at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care. She was the former owner of Yazidjian Jewelers.

Bette was the beloved wife of the late Sergio Enrique Yazidjian. Born in Providence, RI to William R. and Mary Esther (Coggswell) Ray, she grew up in both Providence and Cranston. She lived in Plantation, Florida for several years, but returned to Rhode Island in 1983.

Bette is survived by her son, Sarkis S. Yazidjian of Coventry, RI, his wife Denise, and their sons, Sarkis S. II, Evan, and Dante. She is also survived by her daughters: Shirlie O. Yazidjian of Cranston; Sonya L. Yazidjian Laplume of Warwick, her husband, Leo, and their children, James, Emma, and Lauren; and Sandra Gibeault of Warwick, her husband, Scott, and her three daughters. She enjoyed a life long friendship with her best friend and honorary sister, Joan Goddard, affectionately known as Auntie.

Bette graduated from Rhode Island College with a degree in education, teaching in both Warwick and Scituate. In 1972, she moved with her family to Florida, where they owned several restaurants. After returning to Rhode Island, they opened a gift and jewelry store along with their son, allowing her to combine her love of jewelry, family, and entrepreneurship. In 1997, Bette began working for Foxwoods Casino as a slot attendant. She loved sharing in the excitement of jackpot winners and made many lifelong friends before retiring in 2005 to help care for her grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, Canasta, and playing cards at the Warwick Senior Center. Most of all, she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her children and grandchildren, whether it was going to the movies, out for Chinese food, or to family events and gatherings. Bette passed on her love of teaching to two of her daughters, who both became teachers in Warwick. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, never hesitating to lend an ear or a hand whenever needed. Bette had a beautiful smile, a positive spirit, and a wicked sense of humor that charmed everyone who met her.

We met in college. Your mom was a very caring friend, wise. and witty person. I will miss meeting her for breakfast with our little group of college friends at Athena's. She was always talking about her "kids" and grandchildren. May all those wonderful memories of her give you comfort at this difficult time.

Your Mom was a wonderful, witty person. I enjoyed her company at the movies or our favorite Chineese restaurant. I too adopted her as my "sister" and will miss her company when I go out with my sister, (Auntie) Joan. Bette loved spending family time and I know those memories will be forever in your hearts. God bless you all.

My deepest condolences to Sarkis, Shirlie, Sonya, Sandy and your families. It was always a pleasure chatting with your mom, and her keeping us on the straight and narrow when we were growing up. Bette was a wealth of information, with a kind heart. Heaven gained an angel to continue watching over you. God Bless.
