Jane M. Gibb
Jane Margaret (Williams) Gibb died peacefully on September 3, 2018, at Scandinavian Home in Cranston after a period of failing health. She was 94 years old.
She was born January 14, 1924 in Utica, New York, the daughter of Ellis and Anne (Smith) Williams. Jane attended Our Lady of Lourdes School and Utica Free Academy. She worked at Utica Mutual Insurance for several years before marrying Bruce Balfour Gibb in 1948. They were married for 55 years.
The couple moved to Providence, RI in 1952, and later settled in Cranston, RI where they would raise 9 children. She was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Church, a member of the Church Choir, Women’s Club, Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary, Camp Fire Girls and Cub Scouts Den Mother.
Jane was the mother of Bruce (Vicki) of Coventry, Andrew (Nancy) of Narragansett, Elizabeth of Cape Neddick, Maine, Nancy (Robert Gilreath) of Rossville, Georgia, Patricia (Javier Rico) of Warwick, Christopher (Erin) of Pascoag, William (Anne) of Foster, Peter (Sarah) of Seekonk, MA, and Thomas (Lisa) of Cranston.
She leaves 22 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, 7 great grandsons, and 4 great granddaughters. She also leaves a brother, Raymond Williams of Hanover, PA, several cousins, and nieces and nephews.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, parents, her brother Francis Williams, sister Elizabeth Purcell, and her beloved granddaughter Emily Imonti.
Jane was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother. She will be remembered for her extraordinary needlework, her love of Boston Red Sox, opera, gardening, and as the keeper of family history.
The family would like to share their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Scandinavian Home in Cranston, and Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Rhode Island for their care.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:45am from The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Matthew Church Cranston at 10:00am. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Vetarans' Cemetery, Exeter alongside her husband. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00-7:00pm
Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Jane’s memory to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of Rhode Island 1085 North Main Street Providence, R.I. would be deeply appreciated.
