Peter Fat Suey Tow
99 of Cranston, peacefully left this life on September 10, 2018. He was the devoted husband of Kim Soo Tow (Chin) who passed away in July. They were married for over 82 years.
Peter was born on August 20, 1919 in Canton, China to the late Wat Hee Tow and Yoot Gui (Chin). He was the brother of Edna Lum and the late George Cho. He will be dearly missed by his four children; Henry Tow, Loni (Tow) Hooper (Charles), Arthur Tow (Helen), and Roger Tow (Mary), seven grandchildren; Phillip Tow (Yanna), Dr. Amanda Tow, Christine Hooper, Dr. Erica Tow Whitmire (Dr. Timothy), William Hooper, Jason and Cory Tow and his two great grandchildren, Emily and Cody Tow.
Peter immigrated to the United States in 1939 and waited over eight years for his wife Kim and son Henry to be allowed to join him. Peter loved his family above all else and worked tirelessly throughout his life to support them. After working at the Ming Garden Restaurant in Providence, Peter and Kim became owners of the China Inn Restaurant on Rolfe Street in Cranston and then the Mei King Restaurant in Pawtucket. Peter retired in 1999 at the age of 80.
Peter was proud of his Chinese heritage and was honored to serve as the President of the On Leong Merchants Association. Peter’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, especially during their weekly dinners. He was cherished and lovingly cared for in his home by his family.
Visitation will be held on Friday September 14th in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston from 9:00-10:30am and from 5:30-7:30pm. A Memorial Service will follow.
Donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Rhode Island 1085 North Main Street Providence, RI 02904.
