Jean E. Garabedian

Jean E. (Baker) Garabedian of Cranston died peacefully at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center on September 19, 2018 after a long struggle with failing health at the age of 87. She was a waitress at the former Pullman Pancake House on Broad Street in Providence for over 25 years and at the Providence Marriott for many years before retiring to be a full-time mother and a wonderful Nana.

She was the wife of the late John W. Garabedian who passed away in 2005. They were married for 56 years. She was born and raised in Providence and was one of sixteen children. Her parents were the late Herbert H. and Doris (Gannon) Baker. She is survived by her brother William J. Baker (Maryanne) of Bethel, Connecticut.

She had four children – Joyce (Richard) Bourque of North Kingstown, Jean (Martin) Oxley of Pascoag, the late John R. Garabedian ( Linda) of Westerly, and Jeffrey (Pamela) Garabedian of Coventry. She was Nana to nine grandchildren – Martin Oxley, Melanie Oxley, Ben Bourque, Jennifer Garabedian, RJ Bourque, Kate Garabedian, Aidyn Bourque, Kyra Garabedian and Alyssa Garabedian. She also had eight great- grandchildren.

She and her late husband were “Nana” and “Grampy” to many of the neighborhood children and their families and also to many other people who were in their lives. Holidays were always special in their tiny Cape Cod home and were always over filled with people, food, laughs and love…And, there was always room for “one” more.

She was a wonderful caring woman who touched the lives of many. Her presence will be missed, but never forgotten.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday September 24th at 9:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery Exeter. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00-5:00pm.
