Sally Ann Hitchen
Sally Ann (Hay) Hitchen, 74 of Glen Ridge Road Cranston, passed away Wednesday September 26th at home after a long illness with her loving family at her side. Her husband Ronald, her daughters Debbie and Janice, granddaughter Mackenzie and her sister Ann, held her hands as she passed peacefully into the hands of God but not before her other grandchildren Taylor, Michaela and Jason spoke their loving words to her (being out of state at the time).
She was the daughter of the late Adelbert and Mary (Coffey) Hay. She was born on August 24, 1944 the oldest of 6 children and was raised in Edgewood, Rhode Island. She graduated from Cranston High School East and attended CCRI. She was so very happily married to Ronald J. Hitchen, her high school sweetheart, soul mate, best friend and the love of her life for 54 years. They married on May 2, 1964 and built their life in Cranston and in later years they enjoyed living part time in Haines City, Florida. She also spent much of her childhood at Roy Carpenter’s Beach community as her family owned a cottage there. She loved it so much that she and her husband purchased their own cottage spending time with family and especially her grandchildren. Sally loved her children and although she was a dental assistant and office manager for 25 years she never missed the opportunity to be involved with their activities. She was a room parent and was on the PTA. She was a scout leader for many years and was involved with St. Matthews CYO for many years. Her home had an open door policy with kids and teenagers passing in and out for the safe place to hang out. You would see her in the kitchen making pizza and snacks for everyone. She hosted countless holiday celebrations. She was the person people went to when they needed to talk or ask for advice. She was the best listener and had a shoulder for everyone. She was a friend to all. One of the other great joys of her life was her 4 grandchildren. You could often hear her bragging because she was so proud of them. Even though she had a long and debilitating illness she always had a smile and kind words for everyone who crossed her path. If you looked hard enough you could see the halo over her head.
Sally who was preceded in death by her parents Adelbert and Mary (Coffey) Hay, leaves behind her loving Husband Ronald J. Hitchen, daughter Deborah Culmone and her husband Steven and their 2 Children Taylor and Jason, daughter Janice Canning and her husband Mark and their 2 children Michaela and Mackenzie. Sally was also the sister of Elizabeth (Hay) Sahagian, Stephen Hay, Ann Marie Hay (her best friend), Barbara (Hay) Boccanfuso and the late Robert Hay. Sally also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:30am from The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul Church Cranston at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery North Kingstown. Visitation hours will be held on Monday from 4:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in Sally's name be made to www.nationalmssociety.org/Donate

From Broad St. to Heaven, God gave you a wonderful driver for the journey. Though you miss her now, you should have hope that you will see her again, in a place where God will take away all your troubles. (No, I am not talking about Broad St.)
Be grateful to the one who gave her to you.
