Araxi "Roxie" Shoushanian, of Cranston, RI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. She was the beloved sister of Sue (Shoushanian) Bailey of Gilmanton, NH and the late Hrant Shoushanian of Scituate, RI.
Born in Jerusalem in 1929, daughter of the late Abraham K. and Zarouhi (Halvadjian) Shoushanian, she immigrated with her family to the United States in 1957 to join her brother in Rhode Island.
Roxie worked in the offices of Technic Inc. for almost 50 years. After retiring, she generously donated her time and talents to several organizations, including crocheting afghans for Project Linus of RI and knitting hundreds of infant hats for Armenian newborns in need overseas. Roxie also enjoyed baking and shared her amazing cakes and cookies with her loving friends and neighbors. She was a woman of faith, spoke four languages, traveled throughout the world, and shared her wisdom and stories of the old country with many over a cup of tea. Her warm smile and gentle demeanor endeared her to all she met.
Besides her sister, she is survived by two nieces: Randy Perry and her husband Thomas of Foxborough, MA; and Robin Porter and her husband Jason of Needham, MA. She was also the cherished and proud great aunt of Mac, Faith, Ethan and TJ. Auntie was loved and adored and will be greatly missed.
Roxie’s life will be celebrated on Thursday December 20, 2018 at 1:30pm in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church 389 Greenwich Avenue Warwick, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Armenian Evangelical Church 180 Oaklawn Avenue Cranston, RI in memory of Araxi Shoushanian.
