Ralph C. Sherman

Ralph Chester Sherman 91, of Deerfield Road Cranston passed away peacefully on July 1, 2019 at the Providence VA Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Margaret G. Sherman.

Born December 29, 1927 in Miamisburg, Ohio he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Sherman. Ralph was the fifth child of eleven children. He is survived by his two sons Steven S. Sherman of New Bedford, MA and Paul D. Sherman of Cranston.

Ralph was a WWII Veteran who proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Infantry. After settling in Cranston in 1947, he was a lifelong resident. He retired in 1996 from General Dynamics and then later Butler Hospital, in 1998.

He enjoyed his long retirement years feeding the backyard birds and chipmunks, reading, watching television and adoring the family pets. Known as “Papa Bear” he was a past member of Volunteer Fire Company #1 of Pawtuxet for 12 years and also an associate member of the Harmony Lodge #9 F & A. M. for over 40 years.

His funeral will be held on Monday July 8th at 10:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranson. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the Service beginning at 8:00am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston.
