Kevin W. McGovern
Kevin Wayne McGovern 55, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 18th at his home in Richmond RI, of natural causes.
Although he was born in South Kingstown, Kevin was a life-long Exeter resident. Kevin attended Metcalf Middle School and North Kingstown High School. Kevin followed in his father’s footsteps and became a licensed electrician and worked for Hutchins Electric. Later, he worked for the North Kingstown School Dept. A jack of all trades, Kevin learned to operate construction machinery and made a career of it. He had the uncanny ability to hop in a vehicle and master the controls within minutes even if the first time he operated it. Kevin later became a tow truck operator and mechanic at Wyoming Towing where he could be found working seven days a week. Although no longer an electrician by trade, Kevin was always willing to lend a hand to friends with their electrical needs.
Kevin was a dedicated father and grandfather. More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved life and was always the excitement at a party. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outside; canoeing, fishing, and camping. On his vacations, Kevin enjoyed riding ATV’s and snowmobiles in Van Buren, Maine. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Kevin is survived by his parents James R. and Sandra E. (Moorehead) McGovern. Besides his parents, Kevin leaves behind two loving children whom he was deeply proud of: daughter Kurstin Marie, and son Kevin Phillip and his wife Sarah along with grandsons Patrick and Finnigan. Kevin also leaves three sisters Robin McGovern Gardner Cameron and her husband Glen, Terri Brooks and her husband Steve, and Kim McGovern Becker and her husband John. Kevin also leaves stepdaughter Kelley Hayward and her husband Jamey; step granddaughters LeeAnn and Marissa; nieces and nephews Elizabeth, Amanda, Erica, EJ, Cassandra, and Ryan; and 4 great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held on Thursday July 25th at 10:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. There will be a collation immediately following at Dan’s Carriage Inn & Saloon 1065 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 24th from 6:00-8:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel.

He was a great man, just two weeks ago he told me he would meet me half way and he was so excited for me to go to college. He wanted to see me succeed. Marissa and I became best friends due to him entering my family's life. Even though him and my mother Melinda only were engaged and never got the chance to marry, I still consider him as my step father and I have nothing but respect for the work he has put into many things.
May he rest in peace and everyone remaining here on make him proud.
